Prince Hotel Kuala Lumpur

I took a trip to Kuala Lumpur and opted to stay in Prince Hotel in Bukit Bintang. There are plenty of hotels that you can pick in Kuala Lumpur depending on the area that you want to stay and of course on your budget. I choose to stay in Prince Hotel because of the strategic location and also of the good reviews made by people on the internet. If you are going to KL by coach from Singapore, some of the coach companies do dropped you off at the certain destinated hotels. In this way, you will save time and money ( cab fare ) when you arrived in KL.

Prince Hotel Kuala Lumpur

I arrived at Prince Hotel at about 1 pm and the concierge staff was there asking me whether I needed help with my luggage, this proactive approach makes me feel relaxed and welcomed. The lobby at the Prince Hotel was spacious and well decorated. The staff at the check in counter attended to me and told me that my room was not ready. I was told to come back in one hour time and so I took this waiting time to go for lunch at the Pavilion mall, which was about ten minutes walk from this hotel. The location of Prince hotel is such that it is slightly off the busy main road but you can have easy access to many malls around Bukit Bintang if you know the short cuts and direction to walk. Traffic along Bukit Bintang is very heavy during peak hours, so I find it more convenient to walk or take the train rather than taking a cab.

Finally I was given the key to my room. I went to the hotel lobby and took the lift. I pressed the button on the lift but the number on the button did not light up. Then I saw a slot at the bottom and realized that you need to slot in your room card in order to activate this lift. I think this is a good measurement to enhance the security of the guests. The room which I was given was clean and well maintained.  I think the room size though it was sufficient for 2 guests,  looked small as compared to other hotels in KL.  The king size bed was comfortable and firm and there are all the amenities like safe, mini fridge, iron, hair dryer available in the room.  There is the large LCD TV with many different program channels that you could pick and choose. Some hotels in KL are still using the old CRT TVs in their rooms.

Prince Hotel KL - Bathroom

The bathroom was spacious and clean. And a good feature is that there is a separated bath and shower cubicle in the bathroom. And the shower cubicle though it was small, it have provided me with a good shower because of good water pressure from the shower hose. The water pressure coming from the shower tap was really great – lots of water spurting out very fast, you can actually feel the soap being removed from your hair and body in less than 2 to 3 minutes. Toiletries that were provided were sufficient but I felt that there should be an additional toothbrush given. The towels given were sufficient and clean. Overall I was satisfied with the bathroom in terms of cleanliness, size, functionality and the toiletries given.

I went for the morning breakfast at the hotel restaurant. The restaurant was spacious with sufficient tables and chairs. As I was there at about 7 am, there was only a few guests eating there. The restaurant started to get busy at about 8 am onwards, with many hotel guests filling up the tables taking their breakfast. Breakfast was good with many choices. There is the usual continental food, Malay food, Chinese food and even Japanese miso soup that you can take. In fact the spread of food is extensive and I am not able to try it all. I think this is one of the best breakfast that I have taken during my stay in Kuala Lumpur.

My review of this hotel is that it is a hotel that provides good value for your money. It has a strategic location and the room was comfortable and clean. I did not try the swimming pool and the Gym due to the limited time that I have. I will be definitely be coming back to stay in Prince Hotel when I am back in Kuala Lumpur.

Coach / Bus Trip from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur (KL)

Recently I went to Kuala Lumpur ( KL ) by coach/bus from Singapore. I decided to take the express bus instead of a flight because I prefer a more relax way of traveling on the road rather than on air. There are many tour/bus companies to choose from and I decided on a coach service from Luxury Tour; whose office is in Concorde hotel in Singapore.  As their office is in the heart of Orchard road, near the Somerset MRT,  it was convenient for me to use their service. Prices of coach service to KL seems to vary according to the seasonal demand for their service. For example, it will cost more to travel during the peak season such as school holidays and Chinese New Year.

Took the Luxury Coach from Singapore to KL

On the date of departure, I arrived at Concorde hotel and went to the Luxury Tour office and check in. I was given a bottle of mineral water and then proceed to the back of the Concorde hotel for boarding. I saw quite a number of coach already parked along the road and it was about 7.45 am. The coach look huge and it was a double deck bus. The driver was friendly and helped those who need to put their luggage away in the coach. The seat was allocated to every passenger and I went up the stairs and then looked for my seat. The seat was big and comfortable though there are signs of wear and tear. In front of my seat was a small LCD TV which was later turned on after clearance at the Johor Bahru immigration.  The coach left Concorde hotel at 8 a.m. sharp and the first destination was the Singapore immigration at the 2nd Link.

The seat is big and comfortable and plenty of space

After the clearance of immigration, the coach proceed its journey smoothly into Johor Bahru and hit the highway. There are a number of toll stations along the way but the ride was smooth and comfortable.  A male staff proceed quickly to give us our lunch boxes. The lunch box was quite good and sadly there is no coffee or tea being served. Soon after, we reached Yong Peng stopover and was given time off to go to the washroom and buy food at this food court cum supermarket.  The place was crowded with passengers like us, using this place to rest and relax. There are plenty of food stalls in this air-conditioned food court. Also the supermarket had many local food stuffs like traditional candies and biscuits that are popular in Malaysia.

Yong Peng Stopover foodcourt - plenty of food stalls and a supermarket

Throughout the journey the coach was traveling mainly on the highway road and therefore I hardly see any interesting sight – there are no temples, schools or shopping mall, etc. From the window of my seat, I saw mainly long stretch of palm oil plantation and rubber plantation, hills and terrains. For those who are bored there is the TV / movie that you could watched on the mini TV in front of you. I notice that many people in the coach prefer to sleep rather than watching TV.  Then the coach make another stopover, this time only for 10 minutes for us to go to the washroom. In about 5 hours, we reached KL and the coach would alight passengers at a few designated hotels. When the coach reached Dorsett Regency hotel KL, I alighted from the bus and that was the end of my journey on the coach.

One of the many toll stations along the highway in Malaysia.

I enjoy the trip to Kuala Lumpur by coach/bus as it was comfortable and relaxing. In fact on my return trip to Singapore, I took the coach again instead of flying. A advantage of coach is that there is no restriction on the weight of baggage that you are carrying unlike flying.  But this is not important to me as I always travel light. But I saw many passengers with big and heavy luggage and appropriately the coach is the right transportation for them.  I would choose to travel by coach again when I go to KL, but this time I will choose another coach service company and try out their service. In this way, I would be able to know and choose the coach company which offer the best value and comfort.
